Hello my little South-By-sexuals (get it?!?!)! My coverage from my last day in Austin is going to be a little bit different because I didn’t really spend any time watching bands in the daylight – perhaps this choice was inspired by my School of Seven Bells experience on Friday. All the SXSW partying had started to catch up with the four fine ladies in my hotel room, and when we woke up on Saturday morning we all kind of felt like daylight might actually kill us. When we finally drew the blinds and prepared to greet the morning, we saw this ridiculous line streaming down 5th street:
Can we have a moment to talk about how random SXSW can be? Like, yesterday Sara and I walked past this tiny, surly-looking girl wearing an electric blue t-shirt and a huge gold chain, and it wasn’t until I recognized her publicist walking behind her that I noticed it was Lady Sovereign. Oh music industry, you are so weird.
So this morning I left my hotel room at the ungodly hour of noon! The Pains of Being Pure at Heart were standing right outside, trying to find the Cedar Street Courtyard. I wooed them with flattery, pointed them in the right direction with my trusty map, then took off for the Creekside Lounge. (more…)
Hello children. Today was a very magical day here in Austin. For one thing, my suitcase arrived and I was able to wear my own clothes… and shortly after my suitcase arrived — so did Kirsten! She was in relatively good spirits, and we’re already working on a fantastic letter to US Airways. I didn’t see very many bands today, but I did crank out my first interview (coming soon!) and saw some wonderful things! Shall we talk about them? OKAY. For example! Today I was walking through the Convention Hall when I happened upon this once-in-a-lifetime photo opportunity:
But I’m here now! And I believe that both Kirsten and my luggage will probably arrive sometime within the next day or so!
