Pride Guide 2010: New York City, San Francisco, Chicago

This is a big Pride Weekend, I hope you are REALLY PROUD OF YOURSELF FOR BEING GAY THIS WEEKEND, you ravaging lesbian beasts.

New York City Pride Weekend:

This is where we are right now – NEW YORK FUCKING CITY — so when you’re out there having fun for Pride, maybe you’ll notice a bunch of Autostraddlers trying to flirt you into attending Rodeo Disco 2: Back in the Straddle.

You should check out all the editor’s picks over at GO! Magazine for the best in New York City nightlife because basically everything you need to know is at GO! For reals.

OurSceneTV has a kickoff video for Pride and a pride guide, featuring a lot of famous people who may or may not be involved in NYC Pride whatever it’s a hawt video:

Proposition is hosting its biggest party ever at Slate (54 W. 21st Street at 6th Ave) — they’re taking over the bar with special Guest DJ Tikka Masala and a 1,000+ capacity. 2-for-1 drinks from 10 to 11 and $3 Pride Shots all night! It’s $10 in Advance and $12 at the door.

Bitches, buy your tickets now. Sunday night Rodeo Disco 2 is shapin’ up to be quite a little something. Basically everyone thinks you should go to our party! OurScene TV thinks so, Time Out NY thinks so (print issue! we’re a recommended pick!), Go Magazine thinks so. Even if you are also going to Snapshot, you can totes still come to Rodeo Disco TOO.

Chicago Pride

Guess who’s going to be hosting the Girl Blast party at Chicago Pride this Sunday… Autostraddle’s own Nat Garcia and Dani Campbell! So if you’re not able to make it out to Mason Dixon for Rodeo Disco 2 (for which tickets are still available!), you should definitely make your way over to Chicago for some Nat-Garcia-Dani-Campbell-realness. Nat promises an “Autotastic party” and you know she’s too lovely to tell a lie.

The 41st Annual Chicago Pride March happens Sunday June 27th starting at the corner of Halsted & Belmont, eventually going to Cannon Drive in Lincoln Park. The Grand Marshal is newly-out Country superstar Chely Wright!

San Francisco Pride:

San Francisco is being super special this year because EDEN is hosting the first all-lesbian pride weekend June 25-28th in addition to the typical festivities. ‘Cause there are a lot of lesbians in San Francisco btw. Like, a lot.

Friday June 25th:

And the best part is that tonight THIS VERY NIGHT, June 25th, you can catch our very own Julie Goldman along with Dana Goldberg, Sandra Valls and Gina Yashere at Eden’s Comedy Night at Parc55 (55 Cyril Magnin Street) at 7 PM.

Also, following the Trans Pride March which start probs like in an hour (Dolores Park, 17 Street and Dolores, SF. After you change the pants you peed in during Julie Goldman’s show, also check out the UNITY party with entertainment from San Francisco’s Hottest DJs. It goes from 9pm -2am. $30 with 5% proceeds San Francisco Pride at the 111 Minna Street: www.111minnagallery.com, www.in2uevents.com

Saturday June 26th:

The San Francisco Dyke Planet / Green Planet Dyke March kicks off with a 3pm rally and a 7pm march at Dolores Park on Dolores & 17th street. Over 50,000+ people will be presenting “our diverse dyke culture with a radical political edge” and marching through the Mission and Castro.

Sunday June 27th:

The Pride Parade kicks off at 10:30 a.m. at Market Street & Beale and ends at Market & 8th. Grand Marshals include The Backstreet Boys, Erasure’s Andy Bell, Lieut. Zoe Dunning and Pulitzer-Prize winning author Alice Walker.

You can check out the official schedule of SF Pride events at the San Francisco Pride website, where I hear that you lucky bitches will get to be proud along with the Backstreet Boys, super-hawt Hunter Valentine, Cleve Jones, Christine and most importantly the Bay Area American Indian Two-Spirits.

Reflecting our longstanding tradition of having our finger on the collective pulse of Awesome, we saw these kids at a Candy Slice show a few months ago and thought THESE PEOPLE ARE GOING TO BE STARS, WE WANT THEM AT OUR PRIDE PARTY. And now they are stars. And so there you go!

Also, we are collecting some serious prizes you can win either at the door or by riding the bull:

Anyhow kids, you really need to purchase your tickets ahead of time, we are telling you this b/c we love you and we want you to get the good price. Also, if something really terrible happens and you can’t come, we’ll still get to keep your money which is a win win for us. Actually, a lot of y’all are asking how you can support us even if you can’t make it to the party, and to that we say: if you can’t go but still want to help us raise our funds, buy a ticket anyway! It’s like throwing us a $12 donation! Or just give us your money. After this weekend, we kinda/totally need it in a serious way. Give it.

Autostraddle’s Rodeo Disco 2: Back in the Straddle

We’re happy to announce that we’re throwing our Second Annual Rodeo Disco Pride Party in New York City! Did you come last year? We had one last year, DJ Lady Starlight (of Lady Gaga‘s Starlight Revue) DJ’ed along with DJ Carlytron and DJ Boom Boom and this year it’ll be same time, same place, but better! Like 50 times better.

Also, your ticket purchase benefits the likelihood of our future. Ikr? Who thought we’d still be saying this a year later. The economy has not been kind to start-up media companies my friends. DAMN THE MAN CLICK HERE TO BUY TICKETS.

Ok cool, got it? Let’s discuss:

+
Hosted by MTV’s Rachel Robinson

+
Rachel Robinson first blew your little queer mind on Road Rules: Campus Crawl (which aired in the summer of 2002) and then continued to do so many subsequent Real World/Road Rules challenges thereafter, including “Battle of the Sexes,” “The Gauntlet,” “Battle of the Sexes 2,” “The Inferno II,” and “The Island”. Just talking about it makes us super nostalgic for the MTV reality challenges/shows of the early 00s. Rachel was among a batch of young, sexy, fierce, and out lesbians first brought to us by MTV’s original shows. These days Rachel has her own fitness company in Miami and is joining us as emcee for this years Rodeo Disco. We’re very excited to have her!

Also you can follow Rachel on twitter.

+

+
DJ Saratonin:

+
Saratonin is a resident DJ for “Club Skirts” Dinah Shore weekend and the very famous girl-party in West Hollywood “Truck Stop”. Her newest venture is a an all-female production company, PYT Productions, whose unique weekly theme parties in Hollywood are highly sought-after for LA’s A-list lesbians. We check out any and all Saratonin gigs when we make our one or two trips a year to Los Angeles and we’re happy to have her on the east coast to make you dance at the Rodeo Disco (and you will. Promise.)

+

+
The Spangles:

+
The Spangles is an 80s tribute dance company, we saw them at a Candy Slice Show and have been obsessed ever since. We love the 80s and we think you’ll love them too. Catch ’em on this season of America’s Got Talent and also at our Rodeo Disco.

+

+
CandySlice Comedy:

+
Hey remember when we had a fun and awesome photoshoot/interview with the funny girls of CandySlice Comedy? And then they modeled for us and were in this video and had all these videos go viral and do shows every month and YEAH catch them at the Rodeo Disco!

+

Autostraddle.com… have you heard of it?

+
So there’s this website. It’s called Autostraddle.com. I don’t know, people seem to like it and stuff. I hear it’s like a full-time job for approximately five different people, and a part-time job for about 30 more people, and we can hardly pay our bills and buy real food. This recession happened, bad timing, and bla bla bla, and yadda yadda anyhow listen, this isn’t an infomercial starring Sally Struthers or anything but seriously: if you come to this party, you are monetarily supporting us for this summer and we are forever grateful to you and will keep working diligently to keep bringing you executive lesbian realness.

+

Anyone But Me

+
Anyone But Me is the award-winning funny, edgy, smart, witty, webseries totally taking the internet and lesbian media by storm. Their second season takes it to a whole new level.

We love this show and it’s cast and creators so we invited them to come hang out at the Rodeo Disco (come say hi to the cast members!) and you can get your hands on ABM goods like the DVD from Season One and prepare to touch Rachael’s hair by watching the show online.

You can meet the two leading (and awesome) ladies Rachel and Nicole when we did a photoshoot and interview with them last August and check out Nicole Pacent, Autostraddle’s Miss June.

+

GO Magazine:

+
Obvs.

GO! Magazine is the first thing you read when you’re going gay in the city — they have the most reliable nightlife listings, and you can pick one up on the streetcorner without having to interact with a bookstore clerk who’s gonna tell your Mom that you’re gay. It rewards, enhances and enables NYC lesbian nightlife and so we are kinda thrilled that they’re working with us. And you should too.

Oh also, GO! is redesigning their website and it’s going to be amazing so keep your eyeballs peeled! (Whatever that actually means.)

.+

Guess what? T-SHIRTS.

+
Hey remember when Alex hand-made these “AUTO / STRADDLE THIS” t-shirts for the team to wear when we went to Dinah Shore and everyone loved them so much that Taylor had two stolen right off her back? Well we decided to produce them FOR REALS to sell here on Autostraddle.

UPDATE: Emphasize-ation on “selling here on Autostraddle” — we made these shirts to sell via the internet to our readers around the world. It just happens that the first day they will actually be available for purchase will be at the party on the 27th. After that (if we don’t sell out!) you will be able to get them here. We would never deny you the opportunity to spend your money on us!

If you’re going to the party, you’ll be able to get them right then and there cause that’s when these babies are making their debut! We’re very excited about that and just thought we should let you know.

NYC Pride Weekend 2009: The Recap – If It’s Good For You Then It’s Good For Me

dotted-divider2
picture-4

This is the true story of seven team members and twelve interns picked to sleep on the floor and have their lives photographed, cartooned, tweeted, blogged, facebooked and autostraddled. Find out what happens when lesbians [and interns who claim to not be lesbians] stop being polite and start getting real drunk queer!

I learned this on the Rosie Cruise, didn’t I? How you don’t realize just how rarely you’re surrounded by like-minded people until the moment when you actually are. I blogged about it. The interns have blogged about it and their blogs made our hearts split right open and bleed gradient rainbows.

In honor of New York City Pride 2009, our Intern Army rallied like only an intern army can and came to NYC from Belgium, Canada, California, Chicago, Philadelphia, Washington DC, Pittsburgh, and various suburbs of New York City.  By the end of the weekend we were all completely in love with each other in the best, proudest, gayest, most self-accepting way ever.  (more…)

We’ll be notifying you by email if we have your email address on MONDAY and mailing out the prizes next week. If we don’t have your email and you see this and you see that you have won, please do email alex@autostraddle.com!

AutoFocus! Snapshots from the Rodeo Disco

Because parties don’t really exist unless someone is there to photograph it, Autostraddle’s First Annual Rodeo Disco boasted three fabulous photographers: Our very own Robin Roemer, the incredible Dese’Rae Stage and Sin Garcia.
You’ll see Dese’Rae’s shots later this week when they’ll be available for viewing and ordering online and more of Robin & Sin’s shots in our upcoming massive Pride Recap Post … but in today’s Autofocus we present just a few of our most favoritist shots from the greatest night on earth!

Daily Fix: Hangover City & Laneia’s Grocery List & Maybe Something About DADT or Adam Lambert?

today_on_autostraddle

img_0066

A;ex, Riese, Stef, Carly, and Robin at the NYC Pride Parade

Laneia’s latest “Now What?” column talks about how women are investing in our future with Now What? Damn the Man! Women Small Business Owners Will Save the (F)empire!! And in Honor of NYC Pride, Riese has returned to recapping The L Word, starting with (most of) episode 211: Loud & Proud.

Hello! Welcome to the daily fix! It’s a bit half-assed today ’cause we’re kinda exhausted.

But the good news is, because we are so spectacularly hungover and behind on life news of the raffle is making its merry way all over the internet, we’ve decided to extend your ticket-buying opportunities. Y’all can still buy raffle tickets ’til 8 P.M. EST tonight ’til July 1st!

We don’t want to cut off the when it’s still burning so brightly like like the life of Michael Jackson the life of Dana Fairbanks. For example, read “Cool Stuff Happening on Autostraddle.com” on Craftster.org right now!

This will be a gradually evolving Daily Fix as we gradually get our shit together. We are still all Team Hangover after the Rodeo Disco Pride Party. We are going to stop talking about ourselves and stop talking about the world in like two days promise.  My number one feeling is that I wish everyone who is reading this right now could’ve come to our party and my number two feeling is I can’t get out of bed. Sunday Funday Daily Fix: I Don’t Think Vampires Are Really Gay or Straight

today_on_autostraddle

OMG, it’s only a week ’til the party! I hope you’re coming! Look some of us are going who don’t even like other human beings, so certainly you can make it.

We look back at the proms, senior pictures, gay movies & teevee that made us the weirdos we are today in the Too Uncool For High School Tumblr Roundtable Megapost. Kate McKinnon is hilarious per ushe when Robin Shoots & Riese Interviews Kate McKinnon of The Big Gay Sketch Show!

SO! Every day this week we’ll be telling you about some of the cool stuff we’re giving away for our raffle at the end of the daily fix. Firstly, though, lemme say this: from the get-go with Autostraddle we’ve all been super-serious about wanting to be a voice you can trust at all times.

This means a lot of things: we want to write honestly, interact genuinely with as many of our readers as possible and only work with businesses & businesspeople who share our ethics & ideals and promote similar community values. When putting together this raffle & party, we sought out “sponsors” who believe in the same stuff we believe in. So we’re really genuinely happy that although we’re small potatoes right now, so many kickass ladies gave us prizes for you guys! Donate $5 to Autostraddle and you could win a bajillion neat-o things. So look out for that this week!

double_linesYOUTH IN REVOLT: Speaking of the class of ’99, Hortense at Jezebel is one of us and she has a few words for The Class of 2009, which I implore you to check out even if you graduated in 1975 or 2005 or are still in junior high: “The world is fast and relentless and hard and cruel and often enough it doesn’t give a shit about you. That does not mean, however, that you should stop giving a shit about the world.” (more…)

Daily Fix: When Britney Shaves Her Head, Lorna Shaves Her Head Too.

today_on_autostraddle
Guess what? We have a myspace. We have like ten friends. Do people still use myspace? Wanna be number eleven? Please?

So as you may know, we’re having a Pride Party, and we really want you to come. We want everyone to be happy and have fun! But if you can’t make it to NYC, you can still have fun with our ONLINE PRIDE RAFFLE. Secretly, this raffle has turned out to be f*ckin’ amazing. Seriously. I would enter it like ten times. We’ll let you know how to buy tickets ASAP.

We’re finalizing our prize page today, but in the meantime, check out one of two special auction items: the actual dress worn by Tina Kennard (Laurel Holloman) in Episode 607 of The L Word. Yes, you can own a piece of television magic, a dress that has encased the breasts of Laurel and been touched by the hands of J-Beals lovingly and lesbionically.

It’s a 7-day auction, so you have about 5 days to mull it over before anyone bids. Anyone who bids on the dress and forwards their bid confirmation email to yourmom@autostraddle.com will also be automatically entered in the raffle.

Speaking of! Big thank you to everyone who emailed my brother for his birthday. He thanks you all from the bottom of his heart, which is very deep because he is very tall. Dani H & Michelle E — email green@autostraddle.com to get your free CD!

Sunday Funday: Britney Doesn’t Wanna Feel So Oveprotected & Pride Pride Everywhere You Look

Today on Autostraddle: These are our jams. These are our NewNowNext photos. This is Stef’s interview with Kaki King. Come back later for a special Tonys post! Also, it’s your last day to get RODEO DISCO tickets for the special reader discount — $10. Tomorrow it’ll be $12, so if you get your ticket today you will be saving yourself the cost of an entire latte or one-third of a latte, depending on where you live. To get the code it’s price level “autostraddle” and password COWGIRL.tegan_sara_canada

+ Ladies & Lady-Allies, I present to you the Bad Fad Museum: “While the name of this site is BAD FADS, please note that this is neither an indictment nor an endorsement of any of the fads mentioned. As you know, during the ’70s the word ‘bad’ could alternately mean ‘good!’ Thus, this site was created to take a fun and nostalgic look at fashions, collectibles, activities and events which are cherished by some and ridiculed by others.”

+ The Sunday Times UK has a truly compelling piece about Britney Spears’s life — before, during and after the psychological meltdown and asks: Does her father hold the ringmaster’s whip? A lawyer Britney secretly contacted last year, asking him to free her from the conservatorship, has filed a number of lawsuits trying to get it lifted. In one, he stated that the control exerted over her medication and every other aspect of her life was a “near total deprivation of civil rights.” (@times uk) (more…)

Daily Fix: Obama Likes Us SO Much, He Talks To Everyone But Us

Today on Autostraddle: In the wake of last week’s Prop 8 ruling, The Autostraddle Roundtable asks: What now? Also! Autostraddle’s First Annual Rodeo Disco Pride Party, read all about it!

+ American Idol’s producers forbade Adam to talk about being gay … until after the show wrapped. Probs drew that contract from the same well as the one Ellen signed for the first two years of her talk show?  (@queerty)

+ Surprising to both the gays and the publishing/media people: in [India], where it’s still illegal to be gay, a newly relaunched LGBT magazine is becoming a strong voice for a growing community. (@advocate)

+ Interview with Melissa Ferrick: ”I was really scared to come out and wasn’t really settled in my orientation or what I wanted to call it. I still dated men at the time. I didn’t want a label back then and I still don’t like them. So I didn’t do it then.” (@afterellen) (more…)

Daily Fix: Also, Announcing the First Annual Autostraddle Rodeo Disco Party!

Firstly. BIG ANNOUNCEMENT! On June 28th, 2009, the last day of NYC Pride, Autostraddle will be hosting RODEO DISCO, our first kickoff FUN(d)raising party of the century! This festival of girl-0n-girl culture will include sexy cowboys, hot drink specials, a MECHANICAL FREAKIN’ BULL, professional photographers and the most unbeatable DJ lineup ever (really, music you want to listen to! makes such a difference!) – DJ Boom Boom, DJ Carlytron and a special 10pm set from downtown legend DJ LADY STARLIGHT OF LADY GAGA’S STARLIGHT REVUE!
